VADAI HOOP HAMMER INSTRUCTIONS
See diagrams at end of page for additional information

STEP #1

Place barrel upright on a flat surface with the Vadai stamp facing up.
Inspect the top 3 hoop rings.
  • Each hoop ring has 3 hoop nails.
  • Each hoop ring has 2 rivets.

STEP #2

To tighten the hoop rings:
Start with the ring above the bung hole. Place the head of the hoop hammer on the top edge of the hoop ring.
Each hoop ring has 2 rivets. NEVER HAMMER OR TAP WHERE THE RIVETS ARE.
Hold hoop hammer firmly to the hoop ring.
With a hammer, firmly tap the plastic back of the hoop hammer.
By tapping the hoop hammer to the hoop ring, you can tell if the ring is loose or needs to be tightened.
If the hoop hammer bounces or the barrel ring doesn't move, then it doesn't need to be tightened.
If the barrel ring moves, then continue going around the barrel ring evenly tapping the ring until it is tight.
Move to the next ring up and do the same evenly tapping the ring tight, remembering not to tap where the rivets are.
Then move to the top ring and evenly tap around the top barrel ring until tight.

STEP #3

Using the claw of the hammer, remove the hoop nails and hammer nails closer to the hoop ring so the hoop ring does not move or loosen.
(DO NOT HAMMER NAILS BETWEEN STAVES.)

STEP #4

Flip barrel over and Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 for the other side of the barrel.
